Old Town Charm Interrupted……with Tacky Signage (see article below)

Tate, this is Waldo Ward [an email to Fauquier Times columnist)]… I read your article in the Fauquier Times today. There are several questions that were unanswered. Maybe things have developed since the article was published. 
You said it was not clear yet who installed the signs. When we talked at the Council meeting, I was not aware of signs in front of people’s houses.
Since then, I have seen signs in front of certain houses particularly on Winchester Street. Other signs apear to be showing up along Waterloo Street. Signs are installed near the home of the Town council member Eric Gagnon. Some signs have since been taken down. There are a lot of questions about these signs.

Who paid for these signs? Was it a committee or group of citizens? Was it just one person who is planning on running for an at-large seat?
Ever since Eric Gagnon won in the election, some town residents have not missed an opportunity to criticize Mr. Gagnon. I am not sure if you are aware of the history of the Ward 5 seat. When the elected Ward 5 member resigned to take another position, the Mayor appointed his good friend, Jay Herroux to that seat. At the meeting when the Amazon data center was approved, it was pointed out that Mr. Herroux had a clear conflict of interest. He worked for a company that advertised and bragged about their ties with Amazon. Definitely a conflict according to the Town Code of Ethics. When questioned, the town attorney said there was no conflict under state law. He did not address the Town Code of Ethics. Mr Herroux made the motion to approve the data center. He then ran for election with the Mayor’s backing. When it became abundantly clear he had no chance of winning, he withdrew. At that point another candidate entered the race. A lot of people think she was the Mayor’s favored candidate. This was at the height of the citizens disgust with the pro Amazon people. Some refuse to state their position on Amazon. In the fiercely contested campaign against Mr. Gagnon won by less than 100 votes.

Who was involved in these signs?
The Mayor was very upset when four on the council voted to remove the town manager. He also never misses an opportunity to criticize Mr. Gagnon. Is it possible that this is connected with the appearance of these signs? Obviously it is someone who openly criticizes Mr. Gagnon and likely McGuire and Mooney. Hmmm, I like many residents wonder who the tacky sign concept was developed by and for what exact purpose. If it is related to the consternation of some for dismissing the Town manager, then why only three people are targeted?
Four people voted to remove Frank. I have not seen any signs calling for the removal of Mr. Kovalik. Why is that?
The signs are not evenly distributed. I have seen places with signs calling for the removal of Mooney, McGuire, and Gagnon. The removal of Mooney and Gagnon. or just the removal of Gagnon. Along Winchester Street there are two signs calling for removal of Gagnon, none for McGuire and the one for removing Mooney -seems to go up and down.
I think in the interest of fairness and the appearance  of impartially (and for the charm appeal of the town), a follow up article investigating these issue would be appropriate. Thank you in advance for looking into this.
